As the Supreme Court hears the first case on global warming this week (Massachusetts versus the Environmental Protection Agency), it is a clear signal that we, as people of faith need not stand idly as God’s creation faces the threat of global warming. As stated in Genesis, protecting God’s world and God’s people and preserving the Earth for future generations is our God-given responsibility.

In this case, the EPA is being sued for failing to regulate emissions from new motor vehicles as the Clean Air Act provides authority for. Motor vehicle emissions are one of the most significant sources of carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas that leads to global warming. Protecting our world and its people, and preserving it for future generations is our God given responsibility, and we need to encourage our government leaders to do the same.
As a person of faith, I urge Senators ___________ (fill in names) and Representative____________ (fill in name) to show leadership in supporting legislation that addresses global warming by curbing carbon pollution. Working together as a nation, we can make a difference and curb our impact on global warming.
