Speaking Out on Climate Justice

Help us protect life on Earth by taking action to address climate change.

About Climate Change and Global Warming

Earth's atmosphere is ideally composed for life, with just the right mix of elements to sustain and support plants and animals. However, human activities are making massive changes in global atmospheric chemistry. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution 250 years ago, carbon dioxide has increased in the atmosphere by 31 percent, methane by 151 percent, and nitrous oxide by 17 percent. Almost 75 percent of these greenhouse gases come from burning fossil fuels-coal, oil, and natural gas. These atmospheric changes not only contribute to air pollution and increased human health risks, but also change the global climate. Scientists predict that climate change will increase global temperatures, create an increasing number of severe storm events, and cause flooding in low lying areas as sea levels rise.

About the Interfaith Climate & Energy Campaign

The Interfaith Climate & Energy Campaign is a coalition of religious American leaders, institutions and individuals who for over two years have been working in twenty-one states to educate congregants about the causes and effects of global climate change and to speak out about the religious and moral imperatives to protect God’s creation and all of God’s children. Through this joint effort of the National Council of Churches in Christ and the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life, over 1,200 leading religious leaders have joined in calling for federal policies for energy conservation and climate justice.
