Install CFLs - One of the easiest ways to reduce your congregation's energy consumption and cut its carbon emissions is to install Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs. CFL's use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last about 10,000 hours. Taking this action will also help your congregation become better stewards of its financial resources! Learn more

Install LED Exit Signs - According to the EPA, for every kilowatt of electricity used in the United States, 1.64lbs of Carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that contributes to global climate change, is emitted into the earth's atmosphere. That means, the estimated 100 million exit signs in the US, consuming between 30 and 35 billion kWh of energy each year, are spewing about 50 billion pounds of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere annually. Each church that replaces 10 old incandescent signs with LED exit signs will reduce carbon emissions by more than 5,000 pounds and save hundreds of dollars each year! Learn more

Install Occupancy Sensors - Practice stewardship by using energy only when you need it! Installing Occupancy sensors in the right locations at your church can significantly reduce the energy your congregation uses, and these devices typically pay for themselves in only 6 months to 5 years.

Encourage your members to Join the Carbon Reduction Campaign - Encouraging church members to take individual actions to reduce their carbon consumption as a spiritual exercise, and equipping them to explain to others the reasons for their actions are excellent ways for your congregation to proclaim the good news and build up the body of Christ!
