Endangered Species
Biodiversity and endangered species are closely related. An endangered species is a species of plant or animal that is in danger of becoming extinct in all or a significant part of its range.
We are called to protect endangered species when in Proverbs is says to "Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute.” (Proverbs 31:8, NRSV). This passage calls us to speak out for endangered species. All of creation has been given the right to fruitfulness and to existence, and we are called to be stewards of that. Because humans have helped cause the endangerment and even extinction of species, we have the obligation to protect those species from becoming extinct. The protection o f endangered species is a vital requirement when dealing with the promotion of biodiversity.
