Earth Day Sunday 2006: April 23rd
On April 23 or another dedicated Sunday, acknowledge our connection
to all of God’s creation with the 2006 Earth Day Sunday Resource,
“Through the Eye of a Hurricane: Rebuilding Just Communities.”
Through the Eye of a Hurricane
Thanking and praising God for the beauty of God's creation is an
essential part of our ongoing faith journey and worship experience
and each year we dedicate one Sunday for creation stewardship and
the Earth Day celebration. The emphasis for 2006 is on our connection
to all of God's creation and our call for justice and right relationships.
The following resource highlights a number of ways individuals and
congregations can celebrate and protect God's creation.
We hope these ideas inspire further thoughts, conversations, and
actions in answering God's call to be in right relationship with
all of creation.
Vulnerable Land and People
As the storm surge of Hurricane Katrina breached the levee system
that protected New Orleans and flooded 80 percent of that city,
illusions about poverty, race, and environmental issues were shattered.
In its place, connections about how we treat God’s creation
and God’s people came into sharp focus. To

If you have innovative ways your congregation incorporates creation
stewardship into the ongoing life of your church, please let us
know. We would love to share those ideas with others. Send photos,
liturgies, sermons, and action ideas to:
