Maryland Tree Planting

It's the fall planting season and The Maryland Department of Natural Resources PLANT and BE COUNTED program is a call to Maryland congregations, homeowners, and businesses to plant trees this fall and register them online. This State program offers a $25 coupon to purchase any native tree costing $50 or more from participating nurseries throughout the state. There is no limit to how many coupons can be used and they can be printed directly from the web site. The website also has guidance for selecting and planting trees for your location as well as a tool to calculate the benefits of the trees planted. This is an easy way for Congregations to be good stewards of the Chesapeake Bay and local communities.

Thanksgiving: Resources to help learn and live differently during this season.

Thanksgiving is a time in which we celebrate with family, and friends thanking God for the gift of life, the changing seasons, and where we have been as a community.  We gather together for beautiful meals during this time and as we do, it is vital to remember all of God's Creation.  To think about, pray over, and take action regarding where our food comes from this Thanksgiving, consider filling your table with food from local farmers, or which has been organically produced.

We have a number of worship and education resources to help you consider the food that you eat as integral to the Creation God called good..  At The Lord's Table: Everyday Thanksgiving and Our Daily Bread provide thoughts on where food comes from and how we can lead more sustainable lives with the choices we make in regards to the food we put on the table.  We also have a youth Sunday School resource, Sacred Food, that helps students connect with the land and production way in new creative ways.  These resources, and others on our website, can help you thank God not only in word, but through the food we share.

May this thanksgiving be a time of celebration with friends and family and a remembrance of the connectedness we share with the rest of humanity as well as the Creation that offers life
