Faith and Environmental Justice
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment of all people, regardless of color, income, national origin or race for equal level of environmental protection. Environmental injustices can be seen all across the world such as; placing toxic waste sites in African-American communities, placing low income housing near sewage treatment plants, landfills, power plants or toxic dumps, spraying pesticides on fields in which migrant farm workers labor, military testing and pollution near Native American reservations and exporting modern companies’ most toxic processes and products to developing nations.
How are we to fulfill God’s call to be stewards of creation in an age when we may have the capacity to alter that creation significantly? As we read in John 3:16 that God so loved the world that God gave his only son, we begin to understand the answer to that question. It is with unconditional love, the underlying concept behind the term "Environmental Justice” that we ensure justice and equality for all.
