In short, biodiversity can be described as the variety of species and the variety of habitats that species occur in. It is estimated that between 1% and 10% of the world's species could become extinct in the next 25 years, most as a result of human activities. As part of our call to be stewards of creation, we have a duty to protect and care for all life, to manage it so that it serves the good of all, to protect it for future generations, and to "Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute.” (Proverbs 31:8, NRSV).
